Good storytelling is everything to me. I like nothing
better than to curl up with a book or spend a morning with my coffee and my newspapers.
I'm particularly proud of some of the Maine stories you'll find in this week's Postcard.
One is heartbreaking, about a Maine family struggling to find affordable housing and living in a van in a turnpike rest area frequented by tourists.
Another is about one of those moments after which nothing will ever feel quite the same. Do read about Michael Beaudoin,
whose kayak flipped in the open ocean. It's a tale that will stay with you.
And check out our comprehensive guide to the Old Port in Portland - with tips on how to spend a day, where to eat, where to find the old school Old Port haunts.
These are stories to pass around and
share. I hope you'll read them and want to do just that. I also hope you'll tell others you know about this newsletter, that you enjoy it enough to want to spread the word. Here's the link to sign up.
And do drop me a line with your own Maine stories and tips. I'll always be happy to hear from you.
Wishing you a wonderful summer weekend, perhaps full of berries and beachtime and books.
Beachgoers crowd Old Orchard Beach in this photo taken at the end of last month by Press Herald photographer Derek Davis. There's so much to take in - the seagull flying overhead, the rainbow of colors, the lifeguard watching from a perch on high. - Purchase photos from Maine.
I love this image from Kennebec Journal photographer Joe Phelan, taken earlier this month at the Strawberry Festival in Wayne. Sign up here for Maine Lens, a monthly newsletter showing off our photographers' best work.
